Egg Freezing & Oocyte Cryopreservation
Taking empowering steps toward preserving your fertility, elective egg freezing can now be considered at the right time for you and your life situation.
Elective egg freezing or social egg freezing is a method to preserve and store a woman’s eggs for her reproductive future and to help her achieve pregnancy later. Freezing one’s eggs, or social egg freezing, gives you options and enables reproductive choices on your terms.
Just because your body is biologically at its peak for conceiving, doesn’t mean your mind or life situation is in the same place. As one of the trusted egg freezing centers in Malaysia, Monash IVF KPJ Johor strives to help women preserve their reproductive choice.

What is Egg Freezing (Ovum Freezing) and Who is it For?
Egg freezing, also known as oocyte cryopreservation, is the process of retrieving eggs from a woman and freezing them for future reproductive use. This option is suitable for women who wish to preserve their fertility and have children in the future.
Elective egg freezing at the right time for a woman
There are many reasons why women choose to preserve their fertility through egg freezing. Some may want to delay pregnancy for medical reasons while others may not feel mentally or financially ready to have children yet. Whatever the reasons may be, women should have the power to make reproductive choices that suit them. By freezing your eggs at the right time, you can decide when to get pregnant on your own terms.
When Should A Woman Consider Getting Their Eggs Frozen?
Under 25 years of age
Typically, women under 25 years of age have a high ovarian reserve, or in other words, a large number of eggs in their ovaries. At this stage, women don’t need to worry too much about freezing their eggs. However, if you have any concerns about your fertility, you can schedule an appointment with one of our fertility specialists to have your ovarian reserve checked.
Age 25 – 30
Fertility tends to decline past 30, so if you’re planning to delay pregnancy, you should consider freezing your eggs at this stage. The earlier you freeze them, the better. If you plan to get pregnant at the age of 35, the likelihood of getting pregnant is higher with an egg you froze in your late 20s as compared to natural conception. Of course, this doesn’t mean you can’t conceive naturally at the age of 35, but freezing your eggs can give you better odds and peace of mind.
Age 31 – 38
At this stage, fertility begins to decline, with the decline accelerating in the mid-30s. If you wish to delay pregnancy, we recommend that you freeze your eggs in your early 30s. If you’re in your mid to late 30s, and you’re not ready to start a family yet, it’s crucial to meet a fertility specialist to discuss your options.
Age 39 and above
A woman’s ovarian reserve decreases as they age, and after 40, they tend to have a low reserve. Egg quality also begins to decline, so egg freezing isn’t a very suitable option at this stage.
However, this isn’t the end of your journey to parenthood. Book a consultation with one of our expert fertility specialists to discuss other options.

How the Ovum Freezing Process Works at Monash IVF Malaysia
Step 1: Investigations, Planning & Stimulation

Your fertility specialist will perform some initial investigations and they will provide a suitable medication plan to stimulate your ovaries. During a regular menstrual cycle, one egg usually matures and is released by the ovaries. Through ovary stimulation, multiple eggs can mature and be released.
For this, you will be given hormone medications and injections that you will need to administer at home over a course of 10 to 12 days. Rest assured, our fertility team will walk you through the entire process step by step. Our specialists will monitor your progress through blood tests and ultrasounds on specified dates.
Step 2: Transvaginal Egg Collection

We will give you a suitable date for the egg collection procedure. On the day, your fertility specialist will retrieve the eggs transvaginally. No incisions are required for the egg retrieval. To ensure your comfort, you will be sedated with anaesthetic during the procedure.
Step 3: Egg
freezing

After the procedure, your specialist will pass the eggs to our fertility scientists. They will select suitable, mature eggs and freeze them in the lab through a snap freeze process known as vitrification method. The frozen eggs will then be stored carefully until you wish to use them.
