What is the difference between IUI and IVF fertility treatment?

Sep 11, 2026

IUI is a less invasive procedure where prepared sperm is placed directly into the uterus during ovulation. IVF involves retrieving eggs, fertilising them in a laboratory, and transferring the embryo into the uterus, which require more medication and monitoring. IUI is recommended first for mild cases; IVF is indicated when IUI has not been successful or when more complex conditions are present, such as blocked fallopian tubes or severe male factor infertility.
