Egg Freezing & Oocyte Cryopreservation

Preserve Fertility with Egg Freezing at Monash IVF KPJ Johor

Just because your body is biologically ready to conceive does not mean your personal, emotional, or financial life is. Many women today choose to delay pregnancy for various reasons, but that does not mean giving up on the dream of having children later in life.

Egg freezing, also called oocyte cryopreservation, allows you to preserve your healthiest eggs for future use. This option gives you more flexibility and control over your reproductive timeline, helping you plan for pregnancy when the time is right.

As one of the trusted fertility centres in Malaysia, Monash IVF KPJ Johor is committed to helping women protect their fertility with expert care and personalised support.

Eggs being preserved using advanced freezing techniques

According to Healthline, women are born with 1–2 million eggs, but only 300,000–400,000 remain by puberty. Around 1,000 immature eggs are lost each month through a natural process called atresia. Therefore, the best time to freeze eggs is when they are healthiest. By acting early, you can preserve your fertility and have more flexibility in family planning.

When Should a Woman Visit a Fertility Clinic to Get Her Eggs Frozen?

Under 25 years of age

Typically, women under 25 years of age have a high ovarian reserve, or in other words, a large number of eggs in their ovaries. At this stage, women don’t need to worry too much about freezing their eggs. However, if you are unsure, a fertility assessment with one of our fertility specialists can help determine your options.

Age 25 – 30

Fertility begins to decline after 30, so freezing your eggs in your late 20s offers better odds later. You may have higher success using eggs frozen in your 20s than trying to conceive naturally at 35. While natural conception is still possible later, egg freezing can provide added peace of mind.

Age 31 – 38

Fertility declines more rapidly in the mid-30s. If you are not ready for pregnancy, consider egg freezing in your early 30s. If you’re in your mid to late 30s, and you’re not ready to start a family yet, it’s crucial to meet a fertility specialist to discuss your options.

Age 39 and above

A woman’s ovarian reserve decreases as they age, and after 40, they tend to have a low reserve. Egg quality also begins to decline, so egg freezing is not a very suitable option at this stage.

However, this is not the end of your journey to parenthood. Book a consultation with one of our expert fertility specialists to discuss other options.

By storing eggs when they are healthiest, egg freezing can lower the risk of certain genetic conditions and improve your chances of a healthy pregnancy in the future. This process gives you more control over your family planning, letting you decide when the time is right for you and your partner to have children.

The Egg Freezing Procedure at Monash IVF Malaysia

Step 1: Investigations, Planning & Stimulation

Your fertility specialist will assess your ovarian reserve and design a medication plan to stimulate your ovaries. During a regular menstrual cycle,  only one egg is matured and released by the ovaries. Through ovary stimulation, multiple eggs can mature and be released.

For this, you will be given hormone medications and injections that you will need to self-administer over 10–12 days, with regular monitoring through blood tests and ultrasounds.

Step 2: Transvaginal Egg Collection

We will give you a suitable date for the egg collection procedure. On the day, your fertility specialist will retrieve the eggs through a minimally invasive, transvaginal procedure under sedation. No incisions are required, and the process is quick and comfortable.

Step 3: Egg
freezing

After the procedure, your specialist will pass the eggs to our fertility scientists. They will select suitable, mature eggs and freeze them in the lab through a snap freeze process known as vitrification method. The frozen eggs will then be stored carefully until you wish to use them.
